Final Fantasy X-2 - Dresspheres
The Dresspheres of Final Fantasy X-2 are the Jobs your characters can
be. This is similar to the Job / Class systems of earlier Final Fantasy
Games (III, V, Tactics). Below you will find all the Dresspheres in the
game as well as a brief explanation of them.
The Gunner is Yuna's default Dressphere. You start the game with this
one. With this, Yuna has Trigger Happy, where she fires multiple shots
at a single target by pressing the R1 rapidly, as well as other Gunplay
abilities such as Burst Shot (always a critical hit), Scattershot
(attack all enemies at once), Trigger Happy Lvl 2 and 3 (longer time for
Trigger Happy). The Gunner Dressphere also has the passive abilities
Sleepproof and Darkproof.
The Warrior is Paine's default Dressphere. You start the game with this
one. The Warrior Dessphere has Swordplay abilities such as Flametongue
(fire damage to one enemy), Ice Brand (ice damage to one enemy), Power
Break (damage and reduce strength on one enemy) and others. This
Dressphere also has the passive ability SOS Protect where protect is
automatically cast when your HP falls critically low.
The Thief is Rikku's default Dressphere. You start the game with this
one. With this Dressphere, you can steal items from the enemies using
the Steal command. It also gives you the Flee ability (any character can
escape, but they have to do it one at a time. Flee makes everyone
escape.) You also have FlimFlam abilities such as Pilfer Gil (steal Gil
from an enemy), Master Thief (steal Rare items from an enemy) and Pilfer
HP (steal HP from an enemy). The Thief Dressphere has the passive
abilities Item Hunter (raise chance of receiving items after battle),
First Strike, Initiative, Slowproof and Stopproof.
The Songstress Dressphere is received shortly into the game during a
quick tutorial on how to change Dresspheres mid battle. (You actually
have this one from the beginning, but you can't change to it until
you've been through the tutorial battle). The Songstress allows you to
"dance" to gain special abilities or to do special things to the
enemies. The effects last as long as the character is singing / dancing.
Darkness Dance casts darkness on all enemies, Sleepy Shuffle puts sleep
on all enemies (they don't wake up if you attack them while dancing) and
Jitterbug casts Haste on your party. There are a wide array of dances,
and some of them cannot be unlocked until you find some Key Items.
The White Mage Dressphere allows the user to cast White Magic (Cure,
Shell, Protect, Life, etc.). This Dressphere is received from defeating
the Flame Dragon on Besaid Island in Chapter 1. The White Mage has they
Pray command which will restore a small amount of HP to your party.
There is also Cure/Cura/Curaga, Regen, Esuna, Life/Full-Life, Shell,
Protect, Reflect and White Magic Lvl 2 and 3 (decreases wait time).
The Black Mage allows the user to cast Black Magics (Fire, Ice, etc.).
This Dressphere is received after defeating Boris in Chapter 1. Talk to
Shinra and you'll receive the dressphere. This Dressphere includes all
three "strengths" of Fire, Blizzard, Thunder and Water as well as Black
Magic Lvl 2 and 3 (decrease wait time).
The Mascot is the "Ultimate" Dressphere in the game. The only way to
acquire this Dressphere is to receive an Episode Complete in every area
of Spira. Also, each character has their own Mascot: Yuna is a Moogle,
Rikku is Cait Sith and Paine is a Tonberry. Each character has their own
set of abilities to learn with their Mascot.
Yuna deals with healing primarily. Yuna also can use all abilities of
the Warrior and Dark Knight class once she learns the abilities.
Rikku deals elemental damage and status effects. She can use the
abilities of the Berserker and White Mage once she learns the abilities.
Paine deals damage and status effects. She can use the abilities of the
Samurai and Black Mage once she learns the abilties.
One thing they are share in common is the passive ability Ribbon (immune
to all status effects). The only downside is that it takes 999 AP to use
the ability!
The Gun Mage can perform "Blue Magic". These magics are ones you learn
from enemies when they are cast on you. To get this Dressphere, it takes
two acts. First, complete the "Shave the Hypello" mission in the
Moonflow during Chapter 1. Then, in Chapter 2, do the "YRP, the Scalpers
Three" mission and break even or make a profit. In addition to the Blue
Magic, the Gun Mage can also perform a lot of attacks that are geared
towards a certain type of Fiend. Shell Cracker does quadruple damage to
helms, Flan Eater towards flan, Dismantler towards machines and others.
The Gun Mage also includes the Scan ability.
NOTE: To Master the Gun Mage, you must acquire all the Blue Magics.
The Alchemist Dressphere is a very powerful one. With this Dressphere,
you can use items without depleting your inventory as well as Mix items
together to use even more powerful / potent items. Because of this, it
takes some work to acquire the Alchemist Dressphere.
In Chapter 1, talk to Clasko before the "Foggy Fiend Frenzy" mission in
Mushroom Rock. After the mission, return to Clasko and invite him aboard
the Celcius (The more, the merrier!).
In Chapter 2, participate in the "Cuckoo for Chocobos" mission in the
Mi'ihen High Road. Clasko will assist you during the mission. After
defeating the boss, return to the Travel Agency and invite both Clasko
and Calli onboard the Celcius. (Calli will only join you if you managed
to get a Chocobo for her.)
Finally, with Clasko on board, go to the Calm Lands and enter the
Monster Arena (far East side of the area) then complete the "Clean
Sweep" mission. Clasko will then give you the Alchemist Dressphere.
Some of the items the Alchemist can pull out of her Stash include:
Potion, X-Potion, Remedy, Phoenix Down, Mega Phoenix, Elixir, Ether and
Mega-Potion. The Alchemist also has the passive abilities Chemist (HP /
MP recovery doubled when an item is used), Elementalist (damage from
items dealing elemental damage is doubled) and Physicist (damage from
items dealing non-elemental damage is doubled).
There are hundreds of Mix combinations available. My favorite, and the
one I use the most is "Potion + Hi-Potion". This creates a Mega Potion
(2000 HP to all allies).
Lady Luck is one very nice Dressphere. You can acquire it during Chapter
3's Sphere Break tournament in Luca. You need to win three games to
enter the finals. Once in the finals, if you can beat Shinra at the game
(not that easy, but it is possible) then you will receive the Dressphere
as the prize. If you lose or don't participate, you can try to play
Shinra again during Chapter 5. He is found in Basement A, but he's even
tougher to beat this time.
Lady Luck's abilities are determined primarily on luck...hence the name.
Two Dice and Four Dice will damage enemies for the number of attacks the
dice show. There are also Attack, Magic, Item and Random Reels that will
do a number of things to the enemies...but a bad Reel will hurt (or
devastate) your party. One of the best abilities of Lady Luck is the
Double Exp which gives that user double the experience points from
battles. This makes leveling up a breeze. There is also Gillionaire
(double Gil) and Double Items.
The Berserker Dressphere brings out the animal instincts of the girls.
To acquire this Dressphere, complete the "Protect the Agency" mission in
Macalania Woods during Chapter 3. The Berserker's abilities include
Berserk (obviously) as well as Crackdown (removes protect, shell and
reflect as well as damages one enemy), Eject (eject one enemy from the
battle), Howl (double max HP of character) and others. Some of the
passive abilities are Itchproof, Counterattack, Magic Counter, Evade &
Counter and Auto-Regen.
The Dark Knight is a very powerful Dressphere. Her best ability (in my
opinion) is Darkness. You use some of your HP to deal massive damage to
all enemies. Other abilities include Drain, Demi, Confuse, Break, Doom,
Death and others. Passive abilities include Poisonproof, Stoneproof,
Confuseproof, Curseproof and Deathproof.
The Samurai Dressphere has a wide array or powerful abilities. To obtain
it, defeat the two enemies in Kilika Temple during Chapter 3. The sphere
will be on the floor. (If you don't get it in Chapter 3, it will be in a
chest in Kilika Temple during Chapter 5). Some of the abilities of the
Samurai include Gil Toss (throw money to damage enemies...which I
think can break damage limit and do up to 99,999 damage),
Fingersnap (physical damage and remove status affects on one enemy),
Fireworks (damage to all enemies), Zantetsu (kill one enemy instantly),
Shin-Zantetsu (kill all enemies instantly) and others. The only passive
ability of the Samurai is SOS Critical (character deals critical damage
each attack until HP is no longer critical).
The trainer is a unique Dressphere in that each character has their own
set of abilities and their own Pet. To acquire this Dressphere, speak
with Kimahri on Gagazet during Chapter 2. Talk to him twice and pick the
middle option twice. Then speak with him again in Chapter 3 and he will
give it to you.
Yuna's pet is a dog named Kogoro. His abilities deal primarily elemental
damage (Holy, Blaze, Freeze, Shock, etc.). His passive abilities are
Half MP Cost, HP Stroll, MP Stroll and Kogoro Lvl 2 and 3 (decrease wait
time).
Rikku's pet is a monkey named Ghiki. It's abilities either steal items /
Gil from enemies or cast status effects on them (darkness, silence,
etc.). The passive abilities for Ghiki are also Half MP Cost, HP Stroll,
MP Stroll and Ghiki Lvl 2 and 3.
Paine's pet is a bird named Flurry. Flurry deals damage and status
effects to the enemies as well as helping out the party (protect, haste,
etc.). The passive abilities for Flurry are the same as the other two
pets.
Floral Fallal is the "Ultimate" Dressphere for Yuna. You will find this
Dressphere in Chapter 2 on the Djose Highroad while your looking for
your Syndicate uniforms. This Dressphere has three parts, each with
their own set of abilities. And with the Key Item Aurora Rain, you can
Break Damage Limit and with Twilight Rain, you can Break HP Limit. They
also have the Ribbon ability which makes them unstoppable.
Machina Maw is the "Ultimate" Dressphere for Rikku. You will find this
Dressphere in Chapter 2 in the Bikanel Oasis while looking for Syndicate
uniforms. This dressphere has three parts, each with their own
abilities. With the Key Item Machina Reactor, you can Break Damage Limit
and with Machina Booster, you can Break HP Limit. All three parts also
have the Ribbon ability.
Full Throttle is the "Ultimate" Dressphere for Paine. To acquire this
one, talk to Tromell in Macalania Spring during Chapter 1. Talk to him
four times and he will hand over the Dressphere. If you miss it during
Chapter 1, you can acquire it after completing the Musicians Sidequest
during Chapter 2. When you complete it, do not return to the Celcius.
Stay in Macalania and Tromell will emerge from the woods. Talk to him
four times and he will hand it over. Like the others, Full Throttle has
three parts, each with their own set of abilities. Acquiring the key
item Corpus Invictus allows you to Break Damage Limit and Victor
Primoris allows you to Break HP Limit. You also have the Ribbon Ability
on all three parts.
Using the "Ultimate" Dresspheres
In order to access the Ultimate Dressphere for each character, you must
first change to all other Dresspheres on your current Garment Grid. Once
you have done that, Change one more time and you will have a new option
to switch to this Dressphere. Select it and the other two characters
will leave and you will change to your new Dressphere.
